Work at Home Myths!

As I look around throughout the internet I find there are more and more searches by people wanting work from home jobs. This with the current state of our economy frankly worries me a bit!

As prices go up and jobs now are at an all time low, we the mainstream Americans are suffering greatly. Even with the seven billion dollar bail out, that should never have been enacted without stricter guidelines, has left the American tax payers with additional burdens to now bear. Within one week of the bail out, AIG has now taken a retreat to the tune of $450,000.00, which alone says a lot.

You may be wondering what this has to do with internet marketing. Everything unfortunately. There are more and more people looking for work and there are more searches on the internet for work from home jobs, almost 400,000,000 in fact. This is a Google total for one month of searches.

I have been approached many times already by big name marketers on how important it is to capitalize on these misfortunes. You will begin seeing more and more of the get rich quick programs. The make $10K in one day schemes, no work involved, your own money machine, and so on and so on.

Do not fall for these programs! They will not now or ever put money into your pocket. There will be more and more gifting programs, up sell sites, more junk companies and businesses that will suck the money from your pockets and leave you confused and broke.

Are their real programs on the internet that will actually give you the opportunity to make money? Yes, but you have to do the research, ask questions, email the support group, research the online forms, learn everything you can before signing up, and first and fore most, You must be willing to Work.

Remember the two biggest lies out there are:

Anyone can do it!: If you build it, they will come!

This is not true, not everyone that goes into an Internet marketing business will be successful. You will need to promote your business. There is no blog, website, or program that will automatically make you money or sales.

You will have to find your targeted audience, know what it is that they want, and be able to offer a solution. Within the past six years I have been teaching Internet Marketing and the number one question I always receive is, “why do people fail”?

People invest in a website or product, they only do a little research, they believe that people want the product, they try to sell it, and the more they try to sell the item, the more confused they become and they begin to lose interest in the business that they started. You have to stay focused! Many people do not. When they do not see the financial gains they were promised.

If you do not believe in yourself and the product you are selling, if you do no research on what people want and what they are looking for, if you are not focused and driven, you will not succeed. Stop “selling” and have a real solution for what people are looking for and then they will buy.

I am amazed to this day that people will buy a bottle of water, when water is free!

Music Copyright Myths and Royalty Free Music

February 16, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: General

Ever downloaded music from the Internet? Perhaps you wanted to use it in the classroom, or needed it for your website, or to add to a flash movie, or maybe to jazz up a multimedia project. Whatever the end use, more and more of us are frequently turning to the Internet as our one-stop resource for digital music because we know that it is a fast and easy way to get just what we are looking for! Unfortunately, what many of us don’t know is that it may not be legal to do so. Downloading music files from the Internet and using them like the music belonged to you means that not only are you infringing upon the copyright, but you are also risking being fined and even being legally prosecuted.

The law does not recognize if you are unaware of copyright laws. So, don’t put yourself in an illegal situation when it is so easy and affordable to use Royalty Free Music from music production libraries. And don’t base your online actions on hearsay.

This article attempts to bust some common myths that abound in the virtual world, and put you on the right side of the law.

Myth 1: It is legal to use any music for 7 seconds

Fact: No. Unlawful use of even a short excerpt from a song is enough to land you in a copyright infringement case. Don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise, unless he is a copyright attorney! Remember, there is nothing like free to use music – not for 30 seconds, not for 7 seconds, not even for the first eight bars! You need a license to use music without landing into trouble.

Myth 2: I bought a music CD, I can use the music on my website since I paid for it.

Fact: Wrong. You bought the CD – not the music! Buying a legitimate CD gives you the right to play the music privately. You definitely need permission from the composer of the music as well as the sound recording company to use the music on the CD as background music for your website.

Myth 3: The composer is dead, his music is no longer under copyright.

Fact: Untrue. The copyright for a music composition lasts for approximately 70 years from the death of the composer. It does not automatically expire with its creator. And even if the composer is dead since a long time – like Mozart for example – you still don’t have the right to use someone’s interpretation of their music without a license.

Myth 4: It’s for a non-profit organization, so I can use any music I want for free.

Fact: False. Your project (website, presentation, video, anything) may be non-profit, but when it becomes available to other people, you are allowing them to hear music they didn’t purchase. That is a breach of the copyright law, no matter if you are making money on the project or not.

Myth 5: I can use this music for free because I found it on the Internet.

Fact: Absolutely not. All music found on the internet is under copyright. If you reproduce, perform, or distribute musical compositions and sound recordings without the requisite licensing, you are violating copyright law.

Myth 6: I can use music because the website did not carry a copyright notice.

Fact: Beginning March 1, 1989, it is no longer mandatory to display the copyright notice to protect one’s intellectual property, in this case, music.

And if you are still not convinced, consider this: Would you pick up produce from a farm and walk away without leaving money for what you took? Most certainly not! You wouldn’t deprive a hard working farmer from his rightful income. Likewise, if you violate copyright law, you deprive a composer of the royalties derived from the purchase of their work. Think about it!

So what is copyright, anyway? When you own the copyright of a piece of work, it means literally that you have the “right to make copies” of that work. By extension you also have the right to license that work to others who want to use it. It is a form of intellectual property law that protects an original piece of work from being pirated and used without permission of its creator

To avoid getting on the wrong side of the law, consider purchasing a legal music license from royalty free music libraries. Whether you are looking for production music for your video or background music for a multimedia presentation, you can choose from literally thousands of royalty free soundtracks. What’s more, buying royalty free music online is really easy and affordable.

Stay clear of unauthorized reproduction and distribution of copyrighted music, and keep the copyright police from knocking at your door!

The Top 5 Work at Home Myths

February 15, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: General

Most people who come home to stay with their children, or to escape the rat race of corporate America, are under mistaken impressions when it comes to how they will be able to support themselves without a regular job. Many of these people fall victim to scams, or give up their jobless dreams quite quickly when they realize it is not what they thought it would be.

There are several myths circulating about working at home. Here are five that I debunk on a regular basis.

Myth #1: You can get a regular job at home

Many, many people believe that they can simply apply for a regular job, at a regular company when they decide to come home. They think that they simply open the online version of the classified ads, and companies are lining up waiting to hire them.

The truth is, its not that simple.

Unless you bring your job home with you, meaning you convince your boss to let you telecommute, or unless you are a highly skilled specialist, there really aren’t too many regular jobs looking for home based employees.

The exceptions to this would be customer service telephone positions and possibly ghost writing, but do not expect to make the same amount of money as you would in a typical work setting, or to take advantage of any benefits plan.

Myth #2: A home based business is a scam

The true way to make money at home, and the way that most successful work at home parents choose, is to open their own home based business.

This business can be anything from manufacturing and selling their own invention, to having an ebay store, becoming a webmaster, or participating in direct sales or network marketing.

The commonality that all of these at home parents share is that they set their own hours, work for themselves, and get paid by their own efforts.

Myth #3: You shouldn’t have to invest any money to work at home

The myth of entitlement is frightening to me. Many Americans believe that companies and business opportunities should bend over backwards to entice them into participation.

The truth is that in order to start your own business, you will have to invest some of your own money. It doesn’t have to be a lot of money. In most cases, starting your own business can be as inexpensive as $100-500.

Everyone, no matter what their circumstances, can come up with $100-500. The harder it is to acquire that money, the more likely you will be to put all your effort into building your business.

But the feeling that you shouldn’t have to pay to start a business, or work at home is silly. If you had a job in the workplace, you would be required to dress in a uniform, which costs money. You would be required to secure transportation to your position, which costs money.

In short there are a whole host of expenses you would have in order to maintain a regular job, including child care expenses. Why would working at home be any different?

Myth #4: You can’t make any money at home

Starting a home based business is not easy money. Often you will need to work for several months without turning a profit for your business to be successful. This can cause financial stress in a home if not planned for.

But the opportunity for realistic income is great. You can make money at home, so long as you enter into your opportunity with dedication and interest.

Plan to work your business as you would a job, showing up on time, and giving your best effort. If you treat your business as a hobby, you will fail. Treat it as the most important job you have ever had, and you will succeed.

Research the opportunities you are looking into thoroughly. Take the time to ask others in the industry questions, and go over any possible scenarios you have before you put time, effort, and money into it.

Myth #5: You can get rich quick

Unfortunately, there are many scammers out there looking for those desperate to make money at home. They offer everything from paid surveys, to stuffing envelopes, to Nigeria schemes, and even inflated claims within the network marketing industry, all designed to trick unsuspecting people out of their hard earned money.

Many of these scammers are those looking for a quick buck, who prey on those also looking for a quick buck. They promise people that in return for their payment, they will show you how to have money practically fall into your lap. Heck, they might as well say that they will sell you a money tree.

Do not believe that you will earn $10,000 a month by subscribing to a program. Do not believe that the person who has posted the ad is making that kind of money.

These kinds of advertisements are Get Rich Quick schemes, and they are lies. You will only lose your money, and your hope.

Building a business takes time. You may come to a point several years down the road where you will make $10,000 a month, but it won’t be by using the tactics that the get rich quickers use.

Common Skydiving Myths

February 15, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: General

People who have not tried skydiving have a lot of misconceptions or “myths” about the sport. Sad to say a lot of people are misled by these myths and tend to have wrong perceptions about the sport. Here are some of the most common skydiving myths that buzz around and the true explanations to them.

Friends And Secret Signals

Most people think that if you would be skydiving with your friends, you should have a “secret signal” with your buddy to tell that your parachute failed to open. And when this happens, you would make your way towards them and give your buddy a bear hug or hook yourself to their parachute pack thingy and then afterwards the chute would inflate just in time to save the both of you.

If this myth were true, most probably both of you would have broken arms by the end of the dive; which you would think is way better than hitting the ground in terminal velocity. Additionally, there is no known hand signal for ‘my chute failed, please let me hug you’ kind of stunt.

If you were to skydive in a group, it is a protocol that before any of you would pull their parachute, you should be a hundred and one percent sure that your air space is clear. This is done so that you wouldn’t be entangled with any of your group mates once all of you pull out your chutes. Collision is also another thing to watch out for.

Secondly, that ‘parachute pack thing’ is actually called a ‘rig’, as to no skydiver would refer to it in that way.

The Ultimate Myth: Death

Of all the myths of skydiving, this one would be the truest, especially if you are falling at terminal velocity and suddenly you are face to face with the ground even before your parachute has slowed down your descend, then you’ll probably die. Well of course this myth would only happen if you let it. This is exactly why you have to commence a pull sequence, then deploy your main chute and make sure that it’s working properly so that you can give yourself the chance to cutaway and get your reserve.

The Going Solo Myth

Another one would be if you’re for some impious reason, making a dive by yourself, then your last resort of surviving would be to land with as much surface area that you can get and the type of surface you’ll be landing on.

First off, you should know that it is extremely common to have a license and skydive alone. A lot of skydivers do this. In fact, if you get a license you can do this, especially if you want to see the beauty and sacredness of watching the sunset as you freefall all by yourself.

Second if ever both of your chutes fail to inflate, there is no choice but to fight for your life even if blood would fill your goggles. You can not rely on your buddies nor your surface area.

You can’t really rely on landing in water, since this is something that you wouldn’t really want, because it’s just the same as landing on cement. However, if you can, try landing on something soft and steep like a mountain side with some snow.

Busting the Myths of the Work at Home Business Opportunity

February 15, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: General

The work from home workforce is rapidly growing. People are staying home to work for a variety of reasons. Primary among these are flexible schedules, being your own boss and the ability to stay home with children while still earning money. Unfortunately, many people make the leap to working at home based on misinformation. They believe that a home business will require less time and effort than a traditional business. This is simply not true. The truth is that any work at home business opportunity is going to require effort and dedication if it is to be successful.

In many cases, the false beliefs about home businesses are perpetuated by advertising claims like “anyone can make money at home” or “make money in your sleep.” These and other myths about the home business world are dispelled below.

* It’s so easy that anyone will be successful. Even if everyone had prior experience in owning a business, this statement still wouldn’t be true. Learning all that you need to know to make a home business opportunity successful takes time and dedication. To be successful at a home based business, you need to be savvy in all areas, including marketing, technology and sales, among others. As with any business, trial-and-error plays a big part in the success of a home business opportunity. Learning is an ongoing process. Running a business becomes easier and more second-nature only after you have done the necessary research.

* You will make millions overnight. Instant, long-lasting wealth is a myth. Period. Unless you are willing to do some shady things, there is no way to turn a home business opportunity into an instant success. To be successful, you’ll have to put in the time and effort to make the business take off. And that’s only after you know what you’re doing. Contrary to this myth, you’ll probably even lose money as you figure things out. That’s to be expected. What can’t be expected is that just because you work for yourself, you’ll be successful. In fact, the opposite is true. Working for yourself means that you will enjoy all of the successes, but you’ll also suffer all of the hardships along the way. Launching a business involves a substantial output of cash and that’s a pretty difficult starting point from which to make instant money.

* Once you have a website, the rest of the work is done for you. Websites are not independent beings. They cannot maintain themselves. Although having a website has the potential to help your business, it will only do so if it is well designed, easily navigable and consistently maintained. And when you are running a home business, that person is you. Unless you hire an expert to do this for you, you’ll have to do your site maintenance yourself. If you don’t, then there is no point in having one. The minute your site is outdated, your business loses credibility.

When you are trying to compete with more established businesses, you can’t afford to lose face. A website can only go so far toward furthering your business. It by no means does all the work necessary to make a business successful. You’ll have to take care of all aspects of your business, including website maintenance, if you want to be successful.

Now that you know some of the realities about a work at home business opportunity, you shouldn’t let it dissuade you from jumping in with both feet. Just be aware that many opportunities will promise you things they can’t possibly deliver. If you go into your opportunity with open eyes and a willingness to work hard, then the possibility for success and satisfaction is definitely there.
